The Apples are Done

I finished the apples today, I am glad.  I canned 21 quarts of cinnamon applesauce.  I was determined to get it done today so I could get the kitchen floor mopped.  Canning sure does a number on the floor and stove.  No mater how hard I try I always seem to make a mess.  I started this morning at 8:30 and did not get done until 7:00pm.  When Ron got home from work at 3:30 he helped me.  I did 2 roasters and both were overflowing with apples.   I am not canning anything tomorrow.  I need to make a trip into town to get my license sticker and also need to renew my drivers license that expires Friday.  I also want to go and get several whole pork butts that is on sale until Saturday for 97 cents a pound.  I will get a couple whole ones and several pks sliced into pork steaks.
Right now my neck and back are killing me, going to bed and sleeping in tomorrow.

1st roaster full of apples.

Making applesauce, I drape a towel over the kitchen-aid so if I spill something  it stays  clean.   Love that  kitchen-aid.

    1. You forgot to mention that your 14 year old son helped you with the canner. I guess he does pay attention when he is helping me. He always likes to be the one to make sure it is exactly on the correct pressure. Great job. Thanks for the offer of the peach jam but I made 18 pints earlier this summer. Thanks anyway.

  2. That just lookes so good & I bet it smelled wonderful. We've very little fruit this year, I got some peaches but most were just past what I was willing to pay. Apples are coming on now in our area so I'm tracking prices and hope to pick some up this week. Covering the mixer is a great idea too!

    1. I know I said no more apples but on my way home today from running errands I saw 2 beautiful trees at some abandoned property. They were looking at me, I MIGHT stop sometime and take a closer look.

    1. All the apples, pears, grapes and some of the peaches I canned were all free fruit that would have went to waste if someone would not have rescued it. Yes I am very happy the girls want to can and proud of them. Gina was old enough to remember when I canned years ago, Renee just needed a refresher course. Ali said that they are working on storage in their basement to put the things Gina cans. She works 32 hours a week and is taking 4 classes for her nursing degree. Renee is working and her and Tony scrap to get extra money but she also finds time to can. Every little bit helps out.

  4. I just bought a roaster this year at a thrift store and it has been a great investment. I've made pumpkin butter in it, a huge batch of scalloped potatoes for our big family, and processing tomatoes for sauce in it. I am going to have to keep this in mind for the apples too.

Great post! Thank you for sharing this at the Carnival of Home Preserving!
